Community guidelines

These sit alongside the rules

The server rules are the enforceable document: numbered, cited by staff, and the thing you agree to when you apply. These guidelines are the spirit behind them.

Play a person

The whole community rests on everyone treating the city as somewhere people live rather than a scoreboard. Characters who can lose, scenes that can end badly, and consequences that carry between sessions are what make it worth turning up for.

Separate the character from the player

Your character can hate someone. You cannot. Almost every serious dispute here starts with somebody forgetting which of the two they are being.

Escalate to a ticket, not to an audience

A public accusation turns a two-person problem into a fifty-person one. Take it to a ticket, where a staff member can see the evidence and actually do something about it.

Look after new players

Everyone here was new and slightly bad at this once. Somebody who does not know the conventions yet is an opportunity, not a target.

Report rather than retaliate

If someone breaks a rule, do not break one back to even it out. Record it, report it, and let staff handle it. Retaliation usually gets both of you sanctioned.
